Spokane Gun Club, Greenacres Washington
Western Zone Handicap Championship 

The weather conditions were perfect at the Spokane Gun club today for the handicap. There were only 16 squads participating, so things moved pretty quickly. I had a chance to hit the practice trap just before my squad was to step up to the line. Hit 24 out of 25 for practice and I was pretty confident I would do well.

Shooting with 1oz #8 at 1250fps I smoked the first 25. Feeling pretty good about myself, especially, since this was the first time my daughter and wife had the opportunity to watch me shoot. Had to impress the ladies.

In the second round I dropped one bird. I anticipated it and shot right behind it. SOB.

The third round was not so good. I dropped two birds in a row from station 1. Quartering lefts. Felt like I was shooting behind them. Then I dropped one more from station 3, settling at 22 for the round.

The fourth round I hit 24 out of the 25. To end the 100 with a 95. Best I've shot all year in handicap and I know I can do better.   25,24,22,24 - Perhaps the Lucky Lewis will come in for me.

I have to say that I am really happy with the loads I am shooting. However, they might be a problem when traveling. I'm not sure if there are any factory loads to this spec. If so, let me know in a comment to this bLog.

My friend Jerry, from Sandpoint, did well, but unfortunately missed out on at least two or three magnum purses by dropping one bird each after running the first 25 straight. He ended with a 96 and a punch.

Short yardage was won with a 98 at 20 yards (at least here in Spokane). I heard the (un)fortunate guy shot 97 straight, dropped the next two and hit the last one. So close. Sooooo close. I can just imagine the anxiety. Damn good shooting just the same.

Well it was a good time and I beat my average. Can't complain about that. The Spokane Club always runs a great tournament. Of course with gas as expensive as it is, I do most of my registered shooting at Spokane. I'm very fortunate to have a two great clubs so close to home (Coeur d'Alene Skeet and Trap and Spokane Gun Club). Pinch me.

TrapMan  - Update on Western Zone Shoot   |SAdministrator |08-2008-09 13:00:12 Lucky lewis didn't come in but I did win some added money. If only I had hit one more target it would have been much more money. Bummer. Fortunately, there are plenty of next times.
